Chevy S10

General Motors launched the Chevy S10 for sale as one of their responses to the growing success of Japanese compact pickups in the early 1980s. The S10 was an instant success, and it didn't take long for it to become one of the trucks to beat in the segment, at least from the consumer's perspective. It had a lot going for it in addition to being compact. It was American, affordable, and highly customizable.

The S10's 23-year run spanned just two vehicle generations. The current used truck shopper will want to focus all of their attention on that second generation. Prospective buyers may want to know that automotive critics were never very fond of the Chevy S10 for sale, and they usually leaned in favor of the alternatives from Dodge, Ford, Nissan, and Toyota. However, that never stopped the S10 from being extremely popular with the average consumer.

The second-gen Chevy S10 for sale was available from 1994 until 2004 as both a regular and an extended cab. In the final years of the model, it was also available with a crew cab body and either a short or a long bed. The 1996 Chevy S10 for sale saw the introduction of the Sportside bed with optional 3-door access cab.

The extended cab with the third-door access panel is a great boon for loading cargo, or for allowing an adult to squeeze into that tight rear area. Unfortunately, the third-door is notorious for rattling off-road and on rough roads.

There were also two levels of the ZR2 package. The ZR2 SS trim upgraded the S10 to a high-output V6 engine, sports-tuned suspension, and alloy wheels. The second-level ZR2 equipment package brought 4-wheel drive, an upgraded suspension, and larger off-road tires.

The 1994-1997 Chevy S10 for sale featured a 2.2L 4-cylinder engine standard, which produced 118 horsepower on the rear-wheel-drive models. The 165-horsepower 4.3L V6 came with the 4WD models standard, and it was available on the 2WD models as an option. Transmission choices were always either the 4-speed automatic or 5-speed manual.

Safety was never a prime consideration for Chevy with the S10, and this is one of the reasons that buyers should avoid those first-gen models. Even in the second generation, standard safety equipment was limited to rear antilock brakes. Four-wheel ABS was optional until 1996 when it became standard. Chevy added a driver-side airbag in 1995.

In 1998, Chevrolet gave the S10 a mid-generation facelift, the centerpiece of which was the aggressive front end. The facelift also included an updated interior and dual airbags that went a long way toward improving the S10's previously meager safety measures.

In 1999, Chevy introduced an S10 Xtreme, which was the on-road counterpart to the ZR2. It was available only as a rear-wheel-drive vehicle, and it had 2 inches less clearance. It also included 16-inch aluminum wheels, a sports-tuned suspension, full ground effects, wheel flares, and body-colored grilles and bumpers.

The S10 for sale from the mid-1990s to its discontinuation in 2004 was loaded with versatility and value even if the critics didn't like. A common and valid complaint was the cheap interior materials that Chevy used. S10 interiors do tend to look ragged over time. In addition, S10s like to squeak and rattle, and that grows worse with time as well. However, if one can overlook these shortcomings, an S10 is a solid used compact truck that one can have at a bargain price.

Chevy Silverado

There is always much debate amongst Ford and Chevrolet truck enthusiasts as to which is the better truck. Sure, there are many ways to compare the Chevy Silverado truck and the Ford F150 truck, including their specs, the interior styling and comfort, exterior styling and features, fuel economy, pricing, horsepower and torque, and reliability and longevity.

In many ways the Chevy Silverado and Ford F150 are very similar, including their horsepower, and towing capacity, though there is video proof of a Silverado out pulling an F150 in a tug of war. But the general idea is that the performance characteristics of these two pickup trucks are pretty much identical, so we can call this a tie and it comes down to whether you are a Chevy guy/girl or a Ford guy/girl.

If you look at the exterior styling of the Chevy Silverado, it has more angular lines than the Ford F150, which has a softer curved style to it. Again this comes down to the Chevy vs Ford guy/gal. As for the interior styling, well, they're pickup trucks, so they're not going to be very different in terms of seating, instrumentation and sound and air conditioning, etc. So again it comes down to whether you are Chevy fan or a Ford fan.

Surprise, fuel economy is basically identical between the Chevy Silverado and the Ford F150 as well. Yet another spec category that can't be decided by any other reason than brand preference. Do you see a pattern here? What about reliability and longevity? That one is again difficult to quantify, as there are always stories of the million mile Chevy Silverado and the Ford F Series floating around. My tendency would be to favor the Silverado slightly in this category, however there just isn't enough proof on either side to come to a definitive conclusion.

So if the Silverado and the Ford F150 are pretty much identical, how can you determine which one is better? There is only one real factor that can determine which truck is better: the North American consumer! So right now, all the Ford fans are cheering and slapping themselves on the back for having the best pickup truck, given that the Ford F150 sold 515,513 units in 2008 compared to the Chevy Silverado at 465,065 units sold. So it looks rosy for the F150, however if you consider the fact that the GMC Sierra is just a Chevy Silverado rebranded under the GMC nameplate, total sales of Chevy Silverado come out on top at 633,609 units sold.

Chevy Impala

The Chevy Impala is a model that has been around in some form since the 1950's. The 2010 Chevy Impala is quite different than original models, and offers a great assortment of modern features. Unfortunately, previous model years have been losing popularity to new models offered by other manufacturers. The full size sedan is still offered at a reasonable price and is moderately stylish. Interior aspects are well refined, but there is still something peculiar about these Chevy cars. The most noticeable benefits are their reliability and quality of engineering that drastically reduce maintenance costs.

Overall interior quality is very high. The ride comfort is very nice and road noise is practically non-existent. Rear passengers will have enough room for long trips to move around and stay comfortable. Drivers will easily be able to access the dashboard and instrument clusters. Trunks on the 2010 Chevy Impala are very spacious as well.

Three different trim packages are offered for the '10 model year. These include the LS, LT, and LTZ. Base models have standard 16 inch steel wheels, dual climate controls, tilting steering wheels, cruise control, full power accessories, and optional CD players. LT models come with a few more amenities including front bucket seats with electric powered motors. Other features are 16 inch alloy wheels, keyless remote entry and starter, compass, and temperature displays. Both the LS and LT models are very reasonably priced compared with comparable competitor's models. Body styling may actually be the factor that detracts from the model's popularity. While they are distinctive, they just don't fit the mold of a full size sedan.

High end models are the LTZ trim packages. They come with 18 inch alloy wheels, stiffer suspension systems, heated mirrors, and optional spoilers. On the inside consumers will have leather seats that are heated, dimming mirrors, Bluetooth and iPod connectivity, and a Bose engineered sound system. Many of the features offered on LTZ models can be placed on the LS or LT packages for an additional price.

Two different engines are offered for the 2010 Chevy Impala. The smaller engine is a 3.5 liter V-6 that is capable of 211 horsepower and a nice 216 pound feet of torque. Even the smaller engine is more than capable of giving optimum performance in the acceleration department. For a little more power there is a 3.9 liter V-6 that boasts 240 horsepower and 235 pound feet of torque. All LTZ models come equipped with the larger engine. Fuel economy for the 3.5 liter comes in at 18 mpg city and 29 mpg highway. The larger engine gets between 17 mpg city and 27 mpg highway. For a full size sedan the Impala puts out very respectable numbers in the fuel economy category.

Standard safety features include electronic stability control, front airbags, side airbags, full curtain airbags, anti-lock brakes, and On Star emergency systems. For both frontal and side impact crash tests the Impala gets very high scores. The only test that different receive a perfect rating were rear passenger tests. Compared with vehicles like the Hyundai Sonata or Honda Accord the Impala may just be one of the safest vehicles in the full size sedan class.

It's hard to argue with all the features and options available on the Impala. What is questionable however is the overall body style. Consumers looking for a standard sedan that doesn't set out it's own distinct styling may look somewhere else to fill their needs. Those who don't mind a distinct vehicle and want a lot of options and power will do well with the 2010 Chevy Impala that is a part of American history.

Chevy Camaro

Since the late 1960's, the muscle car has been loved and enjoyed as a simple and powerful car that is not intended for just any average driver. One of the earliest and most successful companies in the muscle car making game is Chevrolet. Chevy has been producing potent V8 engines since the 1950's and this gave them a huge advantage in the muscle car world. In 1966, Chevy debuted the new Chevy Camaro in response to Ford's new Mustang. Both cars became wildly successful and the rivalry between the two cars created a cult following on both sides. In drag racing, trans-am competitive racing and in the simple road car versions, the Camaro and the Mustang have a rivalry that continues to thrive into the 21st century.

After the first release of the Camaro in 1966, Chevy opted for new designs for each generation of new Camaros. After the fourth generation Camaro, Chevy decided to again change the car's look. This new design, however, would bring back the vibe of the original. In 2010, for the fifth generation of Camaros, Chevy designed a retro-inspired Camaro following the original lines and design of the original. It had a bold, aggressive attitude about it and became an instant success.

Now, Chevy has done it again. They have created a new beast, the 2012 Chevy Camaro. This Camaro continues the sixth generation just as the last 2 years did except now buyers have some new options.

These "base-line" models boast the same V6 version motor that puts out a rubber peeling 323 horsepower as well as 278 lb.-ft. of torque. Having so much power, the instinctive question any smart buyer would ask is in regards to fuel economy. The 2012 Chevy Camaro can proudly answered that question. Even with an engine that puts out over three hundred and twenty horsepower, the Camaro gets an EPA estimated 30 miles to the gallon highway. Chevy has really done their homework and engineered a car that gives its competition a run for their money.

The 2012 Chevy Camaro line up has carried the Camaro name into the future with the same pride and legendary power that has come to be expected from Chevy. Every year, Chevy seems to top itself in making cars that perform both on the track as well as at the fuel pumps and the Camaro is a very healthy compromise at both ends. There is no telling how far the Camaro will advance in future generations but surely Chevy will keep the surprises coming. One cannot help but be impressed with the power, engineering and stunning design that can be found in the new 2012 Chevy Camaro.
